Ohio High School Championships Format and Team Scoring
Last Revision: February 02, 2006
Scoring
Individual
There are no changes to the individual scoring system. The format for each event is that of a standard (non-team) USFA tournament - one round of pools and one round of direct elimination ladder. The top four places in each event will receive medals.
Team
In addition to the individual scoring, a team score is computed, however, this year the scoring system incorporates all three weapons. A team consists of a minimum of 3 fencers (one weapon) and a maximum of 9 fencers (three weapons). Teams can earn points for up to 3 fencers in each event. A fencer may compete in more than one event. The scores for each event will be weighted based on the number of competitors. The winner of each event will receive a number of points equal to the number of competitors in that event. The second place fencer will receive 1 fewer points. Each subsequent place will receive 1 fewer points than the place above down to the last place fencer who will receive 1 point.
Example:
Total Field | Foil: 50 fencers Epee: 20 fencers Sabre: 10 fencers |
||
Foil Epee Sabre |
Team A Finish 1, 8, 34 4, 6, 9 5 |
Team B Finish 10, 13, 35 1, 5, 7 2, 6, 10 |
Team C Finish 2, 3, 5 <none> 1, 3 |
Total | 160 | 160 | 161 |
Teams can accumulate points either by strong finishes in the larger events or by depth of representation in all three events. This should give opportunity to both large and small teams.
